"Save The Children" was the result of our quest for yet another location in need. Near Behala, Thakurpukur is this orphanage, which is also a self-help group. It was founded in order to help some of the most vulnerable children. When we arrived in their and heard stories of the place from the owners and co-owners, as well as the administration, it broke our hearts. There are up to 170 female children here, ranging in age from 5 to 18. This might be an orphanage, yet upon entering the facility, we were greeted with embraces and smiles as if we were members of their family. The youngsters are housed in five spacious rooms and live as a family. As gifts for the children, we provided food, textbooks, copies, and pencils. We felt it was important for the children to have a health examination, so we brought along Dr. Manjula Mukherjee, who was very generous in assisting us and the children. Our hearts were filled with hope and love as we saw the glint in everyone's eyes. Finally, we presented them with a check that would help them achieve their goals. The young ones made sure to invite us back, and we can't wait to see them again.
